DNA Testing for Specially Tailored Fitness Training

We are pleased to introduce DNAFit testing which is a first for personal training in the North East.

As experienced trainers we know that there is no such thing as a “One Size Fits All” training programme but being at the forefront of fitness technology DNAFit testing allows us to use the latest in genetic research to help tell us about what types of exercise will best suit you and how we can adapt and improve your nutritional plan to best support your own genotype.

By taking a simple mouth swab, a team of scientists will test for thirty dominant genes to determine the findings. These include:

FTO – often known as the ‘Fat Gene’. It increases the production of the hormone called Ghrelin – believed to increase hunger for fatty foods.

ACTN3 – the ‘athlete gene’, one of the most researched genes in relation to elite sporting performance.

PPARA – associated with the regulation of fat and carbohydrate metabolism during exercise.

Other functions tested include:

  • Aerobic/Cardiovascular Potential (VO2 Max)
  • Post – Exercise Recovery Profile
  • Omega 3 Essential Fat Needs
  • Risk of Soft Tissue Injury
  • Lactose and Gluten Intolerance Risk
  • Carbohydrate Sensitivity

A detailed report is generated that explains the outcomes and these findings are then sent back to us. We then use the information and interpret the data to help us create a totally bespoke training plan unique to you and your genotype.

DNA testing in fitness and nutrition is still very much in its infancy but we believe that by the introduction of DNAFit and focusing on the well-researched genes that are tested currently then it may help us to unlock some vital information that will be of great benefit to you and your success in achieving your health and fitness related goals.
